Hello.
My sister struggles with alcohol and is bipolar. She is desperately seeking employment but is not able to do anything that requires concentration or coordination. She has applied at many companies. Even retail stores to stock shelves... and can't find work. Is there somewhere she can go to find assistance in locating employment?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi Linda,

I'm with BJC Behavioral Health. I know it is very difficult for anyone with the issues your sister is facing to find employment. I checked with some of our Employment Specialists and they all gave the same response... more information is needed to determine what her capabilities and opportunities might be.

We suggest that you refer her to the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. They will likely set up an assessment to make the determination of her skills and abilities. They will, however, also likely require that she attend AA or something similar and provide proof that she is attending.

I would be concerned with medication compliance for her bipolar disorder as well. I'm wondering if she is receiving treatment and medication. These would both be critical to her success.

If she is not currently in treatment, please encourage her to seek it. You can locate treatment resources through this website or call (314) 729-4004.

Good luck to you and your sister.
