BRIEF: Ferndale police searching for missing man, 21, with schizophrenia, depression

Bellingham Herald - 6/28/2017

June 28--FERNDALE -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding a Ferndale man with schizophrenia and depression who went missing on Monday morning.

Eduardo Tapia left his prescribed medications at home when he went missing around 10 a.m.June 26, from the 1400 block of Rainier Court, according to a police bulletin posted on the City of Ferndale's Facebook page.

Tapia, 21, has audio and visual hallucinations when he's having a mental episode, and police noted he made recent comments about death and suicide. He took a rope with him, told his family he loved them, and left in a vehicle with Washington state license plates, ADD4574. (The bulletin doesn't say what kind of vehicle it is).

Tapia is 5-foot-7, about 130 pounds, with brown eyes and black ear-length hair. He took his brown wallet, ID and debit card with him, but no cash. Police said his phone was last pinged in "roaming" mode in south Bellingham.

Contact Ferndale Police Detective Melanie Campos at 360-384-3390 or mcampos@ferndalepd.org with any information about Tapia's whereabouts.
