BRIEF: Beckley VA Medical Center to host mental health summit

July 24--The Beckley VA Medical Center will soon host a mental health summit to highlight recent advances in improving veterans' care.

The summit will take place Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy, located at 1301 Airport Road in Beaver.

The mental health summit will cover topics including access, suicide prevention, changing use of opioids in pain management, evidence-based psychotherapy, military sexual trauma and whole health.

Eight continuing education units (CEUs) are available to West Virginia social workers, counselors and nurses.

The summit is open to medical professionals, veterans and their families at no cost. Participants must have a valid ID to enter the Mine Academy property.
