Nominations sought for veterans hall of fame

The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame (IMVHOF) is calling for nominations for its fifth class of veteran honorees. The nonprofit honors Hoosier veterans for service during and after active duty. To date, the IMVHOF has recognized 62 men and women for their outstanding military and civilian service.

Up to 15 veterans will be honored for military service achievements and/or community contributions. To be eligible, a nominee must meet any one of these criteria:

Born in Indiana;

Entered military service in Indiana;

Lived in Indiana for a minimum of eight years;

Received an honorable discharge and

Has no felony convictions.

All branches of the U.S. armed forces, all ages, living or deceased and males and females will be considered equally. The complete nomination packet and criteria can be found at imvhof.com/nominate/. Nominations will be accepted through end of day, Aug. 1.

Nominees will be honored at the annual induction ceremony to be held Friday, Nov. 9, at the National Guard Armory, 9920 E. 56th St., Lawrence.

The IMVHOF will also celebrate the grand opening of its memorial building in LawrenceThursday, April 5, at 2 p.m. The free-standing building is the only one of its kind in the nation, and it honors the inductees of the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame from all branches of the armed forces. The facility's construction, comprised of red brick and Indiana limestone, was entirely funded by individuals, as well as Indiana's credit unions and their business partners, with donations totaling more than $330,000.
