Volunteers place wreaths on veterans' graves across Berks County
Reading Eagle - 12/21/2020
Dec. 21—Hundreds of volunteers this weekend cleared snow from the headstones of veterans buried in several cemeteries throughout Berks County.
They carefully placed a wreath at the gravesites and took a moment to honor the sacrifices those veterans made to the country.
Saturday was National Wreaths Across America Day.
The national Wreaths Across America nonprofit organization coordinates the wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,000 cemeteries across the nation as a way to remember fallen veterans, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom.
Despite the cold temperatures, local residents and members of various social organizations felt compelled to show their support for past and present military.
The annual event was observed in Berks at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Exeter Township, Eplers Cemetery in Bern Township, Bern Cemetery in Bern Township and Fairview Cemetery in Boyertown.
